The Somali terrorist group Al-Shabaab takes its name from the Arabic word for “youth,” but young people there have been urged to reclaim the word by a UN official who also happens to be one of their peers.
UN Youth Envoy Ahmad Alhendawi says this is just one way young people can craft “their own narrative” by being peacebuilders for a more inclusive and tolerant society.
Mr Alhendawi, who was born in 1984, is the youngest senior official in UN history.
